- Tell your credit card companies so they don't think your card was stolen and disable it.
- Get cruise control and a tape deck for your car.
- Bring a change of clothes and a toothbrush.
- Find out how many miles it is to your destination (see figure 1)
- If you decide to stop by a scenic destination becuase you see a sign for it on the way, make sure it's not more than 300 miles out of the way.
- Bring a book to read so that you don't have to stare at people when you're at a rest stop.
- When scanning for a radio station because you don't have a tape deck, make sure to stop the scan if nothing is found so you don't almost drive off the road when the radio finds a station fifteen minutes later and starts blasting easy listening music.
- Try to eat something besides Burger King and Jack In the Box.
- Get some sleep first.
- Tell at least one person that you're going (besides yourself)
